Certificate of Authority
A Certificate of Authority is the secondary license the Philippine SEC issues to lending and financing companies permitting them to actually operate as such; parallel secondary licenses govern selling securities to the public. The trap it exposes: a company can be fully SEC-registered as a corporation and still be completely unauthorized to take your money. Ask for the secondary license, then verify it on the SEC’s own lists — nearly every major PH scam waved a genuine certificate of incorporation at its victims.
