Memory dividend
Memory dividend — Perkins’s term for the recurring payout an experience keeps yielding every time it’s recalled, retold, or built upon. Like the financial kind, it compounds with time: the trip taken at 30 pays dividends for fifty years, the same trip at 70 for ten — and some experiences are health-gated to specific decades and expire regardless of later wealth. The planning consequence: certain spending is investment in the fulfillment ledger, and deferring all of it to Phase 4 is a portfolio with a hole in it.
