PERA (Personal Equity and Retirement Account, RA 9505) — a government wrapper around accredited funds offering a 5% tax credit on annual contributions (capped), tax-free growth inside, and estate-tax-free transfer. The honest catch is the fund menu: accredited funds charging 1%+ a year can eat more than the one-time credit gave. Evaluate the wrapped fund’s fees like any other — the wrapper doesn’t fix an expensive fund.
